Dear reader, I want to declare myself an addict. I’m enslaved to many things, and in this precise moment of life I do not have the tenacity to fight against my will. Maybe I don’t even want to. See, my addictions are sort of odd, for I’m addicted to love, to study, to sleep… and the list goes on. Yes, I’m an addict. But am I truly a victim of a chronic disease? Am I lacking willpower? Oh! Perhaps I’m just morally flawed… (?) Indeed, society links the word addiction to gambling, alcohol and drugs; our culture has denigrated the word to the most repulsive category of humanity.
Now that I understand that most people don’t really know the true meaning of the word “addiction”, I shouldn’t pay much attention the ongoing warnings of my mom: “Cristobal, you are a gym junky. Doing exercise every day in a week is harmful!” Excuse me if I’m wrong, but doesn't anyone want to be addicted to exercise? Well, all in all, my mom is always right, so I started to acknowledge that my gym schedule is ridiculous compared to those of my friends. Undeniably, my daily routine is out of control. You were right, mom.
Addict or not, science has proven that daily exercise makes everyone feel better. Whether you jog 15 minutes in a treadmill or pump your muscles for hours with the heaviest weights of the gym, any type of physical exertion will improve your mood. Therefore, I will still train every day of the week, but spend less time in the gym. I have decided to train only one muscle per day. Remember, I’m an addict, so to get the best out of each day I’ve created a routine with the help of Bodybuilding.com.
In the following articles I will explain in detail each exercise and the principles behind them. Also, I will proliferate my philosophy about weight training.
