Time is one of the most valuable possessions for any living thing. It is one of the few things in the world that has a true intrinsic value. Time is valuable because it cannot be bought. In fact, even our lives are limited by time. Once you run out of it, you’re out. The worst thing of all is that you don’t know how much time you have left; you can have another couple of decades or just a few hours, death always meets us by surprise. You don’t really know the value of the next second, as it may well be the last.
Unfortunately, the majority of the people are not conscious of the true meaning of time. The velocity of the “time train” can’t be adjusted, and may never be stopped; it will run over you, at last. Furthermore, it is very likely that you are one of the millions of persons that are wasting there time.
1. First and for most, you live glued to your phone.
You should have a record of how many hours –yes, hours- you waste messaging, or wandering around Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, etc, writing or commenting about your life and the life of others instead of living the moment. There is no problem on depending -till certain level- of technology. However, the problem is why we use it and how often we do; that needs to be regulated. In place of creating life experiences, you are creating memories that will vanish little by little. Don’t waste time in your phone, do new things, meet new people, innovate, improvise.
2. You stay in your comfort zone
In life, when you chose a path you automatically abandon another; it is all about making choices. This moment can only be lived once, and in one sense. If the value of your life is the sum of your experiences, then you must do your best to maximize the amount of joy and pleasure you get from them.
The pleasure that derives from any unique experience decreases with repetition. The first time is always the best one since the thrill of novelty is present. Although your common friends are deep in your hearts, meeting new people fulfills you; it brings satisfaction to your soul. People are valuable in their own way and you never know what they have to offer, they may give you advice, trust, help, or even love. Take the chances.
3. You don’t take care of your body
Your physical health is one of the most important things in life. In fact, it is what maintains you alive. Being healthy means more probabilities to live longer, not to say that it permits you to enjoy life in a better way.
It is hard to reject certain aspects of your life that are now addictions, such as: playing video games all day long, doing no exercises at all, etc. But, ask to yourself, do you truly enjoy being lazy? When was the last time that you heard a healthy person whining about feeling bad?
4. You don’t take care of your mind
Your mind requires maintenance, just like your body. If you refuse to eat healthy food (your brain needs definite nutrients to produce certain chemical reactions), to exercise (our bodies help our mind to be clear and healthy, and vice versa), or to get enough sleep (our brain and bodies need to rest and restore all the energies that they’ve lost in the day), then you will enjoy less your life.
In order to be happy your mind needs to be healthy. Happiness is no mythological creature; it is a combination of chemical reactions. We actually need to do things to be happy, we need to focus on ourselves, develop some skills, meet new people, travel, and do things that are important to us and that fulfill our expectations.
By the way, this four points may reflect what the first few days of my July vacations where. In those days I felt like a dog in a small house. I could rest all the time I wanted, and, at first it was relaxing, though the days where passing and I became unconscious of my state. I was chained to my sofa, and my PlayStation; laziness had destroyed me piece by piece, and like a dog, I couldn’t get out of the house, only with the help of others. I depended on my friends to do something productive, and I realized that, so I decided to enroll to Muai Thai classes, to find equilibrium and to get out of my house. Since then I felt awesome.
