Let me start this blog post with an illustration. Let me think of a tunnel, one end of which is open to fertile valleys, glowing sunshine, and beautiful vegetation. There is peace, song, happiness and joy.
You are at the other end, in a deep dark cavern, overlooking a desert. With a curiosity that you didn’t put in your mind, you want to find out were these tunnel leads, what is at the end of it. You peer into the tunnel. At first it all seems dark and shadowy, but as you continue walking, a shaft of light illuminates the tunnel and you catch a vision of the other side.
It was incredible how in such glimpse you were able to see yourself standing in the other end of the tunnel. Perhaps, in that momentary vision you saw your own spirit. You have a great way to go, to leave behind the dismal scene of unhappiness, and enter the joy that you briefly glimpsed. It seems, though, that the longing of the walk is huge. Then darkness closes in. Your vision has vanished. It must have been an illusion. Now there are two voices that are talking to you. One says: “you are following a mirage, an illusion. There is nothing real but at this end of the tunnel. Accept things as they are. Make the best of them, but do not hope, do not change your plans.” The other voice is saying: “Do not be afraid. Your vision is true. Enter the tunnel and walk through. That which obstructs your passage is vapor: The vapor of unbelief. It is dense only when you worry and doubt. It is filled with the thoughts of your past, but it will vanish. As you walk through the tunnel the darkness will disappear because of this light."
See, the barriers that we place to ourselves are made of thoughts and beliefs. They are not actually real, but we unconsciously make them because of fear. Because we don’t know what is beyond, because we have no control of the outcomes- we are afraid of the uncertain. How many times have we stayed in the dark end of the tunnel, loosing are freedom and giving up to our dreams just because of our fear to the uncertain? And once we give up, as Mr. Bon said, “we seek comfort in the elusiveness of certainty”. We need to understand that certainty is ephemeral. We can probably plan 10 minutes of our lives, but we certainly can’t plan a day. The IA weekly agenda is a clear example; we are constantly adapting to the circumstances for the better of BreakThrough. Many of us have plans for next week, a schedule for the month, or even a scheme of what our entire year will look like. Some have their entire life planned. JA JA, that’s stupid, of course you can’t plan your whole life out. You don’t know what is going to happen next because life is uncertain. It’s like work in progress. Don't keep trying to put nature into a box, you will get frustrated, angry and you will continue suffering.
