I am really lucky of being in the bus with people so capable and talented as the ones of my prom, who celebrated with me the ICC’s second place as sophomores. Obviously, most of my classmates are gifted with many qualities, which were showcased in several activities –such as battle of the bands, track and field, soccer, etc.- however, our guts, our attitude, and our well-rounded hedgehog concept were the factors that made us unique and lead us to ICC’s second place.
“The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing,”
the poem famously concludes.
Unlike the rest of the classes, we were humble. Although we weren’t the loudest, our spirit was always great; we complemented and motivated each other, learned and sometimes laughed of our errors, and constantly tried to be the best. Yes, we were competitive; but that competitiveness had nothing to do with the other classes, yet only about ourselves. We tried to ignore the hate fostered by the competition, and tackle adversity with a smile. We wanted to pass unaware and worry on our things. We won the juniors thanks to our simplicity, our good vibes, and because of the unbreakable bond that united us with unknown forces. Also, because we maximized our effectiveness, by placing the people in activities according to their strengths. And, above all, because we were consistent: we always maintained the hedgehog concept, and when someone lost faith, there was always a friend to give him strength.
The most shocking and memorable moment in ICC for me was while playing soccer. Through out the entire week our junior friends told us that their soccer team was invincible, that they had the best players, and that they were going to win with no doubt. However, we won, and it wasn’t casual… the score ended 3-0. Nevertheless, the talent of their players was actually better than ours, but then… how did we win? It was our attitude. Watching Ernesto -with cramps all over his body- run with all his might, after playing three games of basketball and running in track and field, and seeing Luciano fighting every ball and canceling out the best players on school, and watching all the prom shouting our goals like if we were winning the World Cup are things that don’t happen often, and make you enjoy life at its fullest. I wish I could stop growing and stay at school for a long time, before leaving this wonderful prom.
